چکیده

Conservation targets that reference historical expectations, such as maintaining specified areas of intact ecosystems, restoring degraded ones or the historic distributions species, may not be realistic in context ongoing environmental change, whereas aspire to accommodate complex realities human-altered and changing world tend too vague implement. Using first three recently proposed Convention on Biological Diversity post-2020 global biodiversity Action Targets context, we suggest a policy framework evaluates how might shift from an emphasis resisting sometimes inevitable change development positive directions for people biodiversity. Our Anthropocene approach builds fact all ecosystems have already been shaped by interactions with is inevitable. We outline Facilitate–Accept–Resist (FAR) levels conservation decision-making actions, ranging overall strategies (planning, setting targets, monitoring selecting indicators) places (sites, landscapes) provision ecosystem services human well-being. For each potential decision, whether, whom one facilitate, accept resist particular changes. highlight value inclusive engagement process ensure benefits are equitably shared. The CBD reflect tensions between states nature reality integrating accepting change. challenge operationalize inclusivity, integration elements whilst ‘abandoning’ locations many conservationists consider key wildlife. FAR represents way face this tension, so facilitation acceptance adopted at least frequently resisted.

Subgame Perfect Farsighted Stability∗

Farsighted game theoretic solution concepts have been shown to provide insightful results in many applications. However, we provide simple examples demonstrating that the existing solution concepts may fail to incorporate some important aspects of farsighted reasoning. This failure stems apparently from the reliance of these concepts on constructs such as indirect dominance which only provide l...

Farsighted free trade networks

The paper examines the strategic stability and the e¢ ciency of free trade networks. We reconsider the endogenous tari¤ model introduced by Goyal and Joshi (2006). Di¤erent from their analysis with myopic countries, we adopt a new solution concept, pairwise farsighted stable set (Herings, Mauleon and Vannetelbosch, 2009, GEB), to examine the formation of free trade agreements (FTAs) as a networ...

Farsighted House Allocation

In this note we study von Neumann-Morgenstern farsightedly stable sets for Shapley and Scarf (1974) housing markets. Kawasaki (2008) shows that the set of competitive allocations coincides with the unique von Neumann-Morgenstern stable set based on a farsighted version of antisymmetric weak dominance (cf., Wako, 1999). We demonstrate that the set of competitive allocations also coincides with t...

Networks and farsighted stability

We make two main contributions to the theory of economic and social network formation. First, we introduce the notion of a network formation network or a supernetwork. Supernetworks provide a framework in which we can formally define and analyze farsightedness in network formation. Second, we introduce a new notion of equilibrium corresponding to farsightedness. In particular, we introduce the ...

Farsighted network formation

This paper studies a model of dynamic network formation when individuals are farsighted : players evaluate the desirability of a “current" move in terms of its consequences on the entire discounted stream of payoffs. We define a concept of equilibrium which takes into account farsighted behavior of agents and allows for limited cooperation amongst agents. We show that an equilibrium process of ...
